BPA Safe / Metal-Free

Dr. Fattah and the staff at Scottsdale Family Smiles understand patient concerns and as such, the office provides safe metal-free filling options. As part of our goal of offering natural, holistic care, our office strives to ensure that our patients receive the safest, BPA-safe and non-metal filling material. 

In addition to the way our composite fillings match tooth colors, we also pride ourselves in providing filling material that is efficient and more gentle to the structure of the tooth. Because our filling material does not contain metal, it also does not expand over time the way metal fillings do. 

As a result, our patients run far less risk of experiencing small tooth fractures that weaken the tooth surface and allow bacteria an easier entry point to cause infection. 

By comparison, our BPA-free material is a lot like a tooth’s natural enamel, and it responds to temperature in similar ways.

Traditional filling material, though effective, is made up of approximately 50% mercury. This content measurement is separate from the mercury vapor released into patients’ mouths whenever the fillings are heated due to the friction of chewing food.

This is a concern for many patients being that mercury is poisonous. Though the mercury exposure from dental fillings is considered minimal, it’s understandable that patients are seeking alternative materials.

On top of the concern associated with metal fillings, many people are hesitant to opt for BPA-containing composite fillings as well. This is due to the possibility of BPA being released into the mouth.
